Default KRT question, engines cutting off when stopped

Can someone explain to me the thought process of an engine cutting off when you stop at an intersection , etc

Buddy of mine has new company truck (Chevy ) and we went to lunch one day and every time we stopped the motor cuts off , he did tell me there was some sort of override he thought (Company truck so he drives what ever they put him in ) Over all very nice truck though

Far from a mechanic’s standpoint what is the point in this, I know I am old but was always told starting a vehicle was harder on it than leaving it running

I know lot of vehicles have this option now days

Like to hear a true mechanic’s thought on this process

    Saves gas

Auto start-stop. Saves gas. Kills battery and starter. I shut mine off every time I get in the truck.

    Pretty much all the above.

Corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards and regulations set forth by congress. Believe it or not Trump rolled back as much of the standards the Obama admin put in place.

At least at the current moment, you as a driver can cut that function off… at the moment.

You will continue to see a rise in fully electric vehicles as well. This will be the only way vehicle manufactures meet cafe.

So just imagine a fully electric tractor or equipment. It’s coming. May be a while but don’t think for once all these car manufactures are not asking the government why they have to meet cafe but offroad doesn’t.

Vehicles acquire a lot of time at idle, if you check a histogram of Run time vs RPM you will see this. Because of this, emissions regulations are heavily weighted at idle. One way to clean up your idle emissions is for the car to shut off, or at least that’s how they decided to skin the cat.

    auto start stop feature
    Have it on my F150
You wouldn't think it could be good for a battery or a starter's life
I disabled it the day I bought it, bought the thingy that plugs in my OBD port and it turned it off

I got tired of pushing the "on off" button every time I started the truck
    It's an easy fix

Drives me crazy. Permanently Disabled it in my ford using forscan programmer.
I also tried to disable the horn honking if I got out while truck is running and closed the door with key in my pocket. It initially worked but didn’t seem to stick.

The double honk drives me crazy.
I open a lot of gates and it honks at me every time.

Instead of electric, hydrogen is the way to go but then some hippy would complain about the extra humidity in the air.

A friend of mine had the program and I did it around 2 years ago. Not sure if it was hex codes but it was a long list of 7 digit codes and we made changes by altering the stock codes replacing certain numbers or letters with the corresponding numbers or letters to alter the programming.

If any of my vehicles shut off at a red light, and I didn't hit the key, something is fucked up.

Both doors of my truck fill up with water when it rains hard.

KRT said to ignore that too.

And my truck doesn't cut off at red lights.
