Exactly. Took both my kids when they were young all the time. Now my youngest is fishing for a living. He caught a 10.5lb bass Shad fishing when he was 5. He’s been fishing since he was 2 when I used to troll for trout with him.

I'm actually going OOS to fish a shad tournament with my brother and best friend toward the end of April. Fun to catch, and cash prizes.

Shad Roe is outstanding food as mentioned. Salt, Pepper , butter and pan seared. Nothing more to it.. I have seen roe coated in flour, and fried too and it was great.

I have eaten Smoked Shad and it was edible for sure.

I kinda fond of Mullet roe for sure. You see any roe mullet down that way. Used to be a fish market up here that sold mullet and threw the roe away as nobody would buy it but me.

Got home yesterday after 4 days of fishing in a shad tournament. There were 1,100 entries this year, and we finished 8th overall, and 2nd on the day 3 daily. Long days, but had a blast with my brother, and best friend. Split the winnings between the boat.

Top 10 overall, and top 4 daily weights are prize money. The boat finished 11th two years in a row previously. Felt good to get on the board and in the money. It's a "big fish" tourn. and there wasn't much of a difference between 1st and 10th. I was 0.16 lb. out of first and finished 8th!
