    Default LH 20's?

Got a friend who is lefty and confirmed left-eye dominant. Trying to get him in a 20ga primarily for skeet/clays/trap. Going back and forth between semi-auto and O/U, but leaning towards O/U. As you southpaws already know options are extremely limited. Compromises will have to be made.

Seems like every true lefty gun I'm finding are all 12s, no 20s. Are there any options for a LH 20 that I just haven't found yet?

Worse case scenario he'll just have to either live with a semi-auto LH 12, or if I can, find a RH O/U then procure a stock with LH cast.

What's the left-handed side of the braintrust got?

I know Franchi offers left hand in the affinity 3 20 gauge.

I've seen the Southpaw, but looks like they only offer it in 12.

Unless he doesn't like his thumbs I wouldn't consider the Franchi 20. It a bitch to load. Buy a left handed M2 and be done with it. Best decision I ever made was selling that lefty Franchi 20

LH M2 is a good option.

For mostly skeet, trap and clays, I'd advise him to get his first gun in 12 gauge. It seems the trend at some courses has been to set long and extremely long targets, not ideal for sub-gauge and bound to cause some unnecessary frustration.

An M2 would be a terrible choice for shotgun sports

Just curious... For sake of conversation, let's assume most target shooters toting a 12ga are using a std 1oz load. A 20 can push 1oz of lead pellets out the end a barrel just same as a 12 and at an equal velocity. Same amount of pellets, even if a small difference in velocity not enough to make a difference.

    Then why a 12?

Unless he's a kid or a virgin I'd go with a 12 gauge as well.

Lots of reasons. Recoil, gun size, gun weight, etc, etc…

You see any Master class shooters shooting 20s for Main Events?

A lot of sporting clays shooters shoot 1 1/8 oz.

If you are looking to avoid recoil, a 20 gauge may not be the way to do it. As mentioned, they shoot a load is not much lighter than a 12 but the gun is often much lighter. I have a pair of Citoris that are identical scale models of each other, one in 12 and the other in 20, and the 20 tires me out quicker when I shoot a lot of shells, like when I take a lesson and shoot a whole flat in a half day session. The only benefit to the lighter gun I find is carrying it while following a pair of dogs.

I hear what you're saying but that's irrelevant in this case. This shooter, along with virtually all the rest of us here aside from Gander et al, will not be shooting at a Main any time soon.

Those touting recoil as a reason, 12 or 20 doesn't much matter. Client plans to follow my recommendation to add a Gracoil... plus I'll add weight in the stock to help tame recoil. Problem solved as much as humanly possible.

“Skeet clays trap” get the 12 o/u and then drop in tubes if he wants to shoot sub gauges. I’m not left handed but took about 30 seconds to find this two year olds article. Appears to be a decent amount of options. https://www.gundogmag.com/editorial/...hotguns/176408
