    Default Trapping starter kits

I have a few to many bobcats and foxes hanging around my property and I would like to start trapping them. Can anyone recommend a good starter kit? Any tips on making sets are welcome as well. I have zero experience trapping so I will be learning from what I can find online.

“Duck hunting gives a man a chance to see the loneliest places …blinds washed by a rolling surf, blue and gold autumn marshes, …a rice field in the rain, flooded pin-oak forests or any remote river delta. In duck hunting the scene is as important as the shooting.” ~ Erwin Bauer, The Duck Hunter’s Bible, 1965

Cagie cottontail and a thermal would be a more fun way of handling it

This right here is best starter kit they make. Bobcats are just like house cats curious. Flagging tape, feathers, a dove wing on fishing line, any thing that will blow around in the wind will catch their attention will help with getting them in the area if you are setting for solely cats.

Second that. A lot of good info on YouTube. Other than that trail and error are pretty good teachers. Don’t try and save a little money and get the bridgers….. get the 550s and if you can 550s with the night latch.

I've bought from these folks and they still send a printed catalog every year. Look over the starter kits they have, then I would suggest the predator kit(less species specific). You can catch just about anything in a common dirt hole set, spend some time on YouTube on how to tailor to fox and bobcat specifically.

I helped a guy beaver trap last year. That shits hard work. He's actually coming back to SC this weekend. I'll ask him if he might be interested if you are serious.

I need some help. I have watched many videos on Youtube and set 4 duke 550 traps on my property this past Saturday. I have had foxes, bobcats, coons, and opossum walk with in feet of my sets but none have shown any interest in my sets. What am I doing wrong? I used Fleming bobcat bait and violators lure on 2 and Fleming coyote bait and k9 lure on the others. I hung fresh wood duck feather on fishing line above my trap for a visual attractant. Am I using the wrong stuff or just bad luck? We did get a few inches of rain Sunday night Monday morning but had foxes pass by before the rain with no interest. Do I need to rebait after a heavy rain? Anybody with trapping experience in the Low country want come out and show me what I am doing wrong or can offer me any tips? My property is located in the Cottageville area.
    Thanks

They may be avoiding your scent. Give it some time. I agree with the cavens recommendation. If it's not bedded or covered correctly they'll avoid it. They'll usually paw at a bedded trap so doubt that's the issue.

You'll get a lot of photos once you trap them if the camera is not set to time lapse.

If you order more supplies, order a cover scent (grey or red fox urine).

I typically don't re-bait based on weather but will refresh all on a schedule. I inspect from a distance daily and avoid adding more scent

Most predators are also mating right now so food may not be on their mind. Just keep at it.
