Yes, about anything you can do with a .308 you can do with a 7mm08 and expect similar results. If loading ammo then H414 or H4350 are the Varget of the 7mm08.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

You can cut anything to 16” as long as there’s enough metal to thread.

It would be better to use a cartridge with less capacity for a shorter barrel. A 7mm RM case would have too much volume to allow the use of a faster burning, denser powder. It isn't safe to use a powder that doesn't come somewhat close to filling the case because the loose powder atomizes in the big volume can burn all at once (detonate) instead of a relatively slow burn. That's why you generally don't use pistol powder in a long barreled gun. The 7mm-08 could be loaded with a faster powder and push the same bullets faster and also not have a mushroom cloud muzzle blast of unburnt powder.

20-22. Any shorter you’re burning 20% more powder to get 7-08 performance.

I’ve got a REM arms 700 in 7-08. Bought it on a whim. Shoots around an inch with factory ammo, 10-shots , no 3 shot got lucky cherry picked bullshit. 24” barrel matte finish. You can have it cut to 20 and threaded. I’ve got too many overlaps and need to thin the herd.

Wasn’t trying to be a jackass either, I have one and it’s a great gun. It is from the tampon isle though since it’s in 6.5.
