    Default Impoundment help

Looking at possibly building an impoundment down at my farm. Is there anyone on here that builds them? Looking to build about a 5 acre one.

We rented machines and built our own on a property I owned in Arkansas. Saved a lot of money and it’s not near as difficult as it seems.

This was going to be my next suggestion. I oversaw a 40acre expansion of a very large pond and we ended up doing 90% of the dirt work ourselves. Keying the ground and using solid material are the key to building a good dike!

There ain't nothing cheap about building dikes with spillways, fencing out the corn looters, wells, pumps, electricity, leveling, planting, blinds... especially for the ROI.

J's the make sure it holds water part is pretty huge... I watched one being built as a kid, large one, pump bought, stands built, and a solid crop of corn when they realized it wouldn't hold water long enough to make a good puddle. They trusted an idiot.

And you still haven't paid for the first load of fertilizer lol, but ROI is subjective. Hopeium is a powerful drug for a duck hunter...

If one starts trying to justify the ROI for hunting/fishing you will quickly lose your mind!

This right here happened when we tried. 3&20 creek had changed so much over the years our bottoms wouldn’t hold water due to all the sand.

every so often, the river will flood enough to turn that place into a lake.. the last time Nutz and I had a ball with some ringnecks in it. I can put my 16 foot jon in, and probably pull someone on a slalom when it does, but there will be water bubbling in a few places that look like sperm whales getting it on... there's a timeline on the fun
