There was 4 bears killed when I was in Idaho this past spring. 3 people kept the hides and threw the meat and guts on bait piles. I was told that the meat was worthless. They said some people would make sausage with it but once they ate it, they would give it away to people they didn't like.
I couldn't make myself do that so I cut all the fat off and as much meat as I could fit in the cooler.

If I had known how good it was I would have taken all the meat and fat I could get from all 4 bears. My wife and daughter are extremely picky about eating any wild game and they both come back for seconds every time I cook it.

In the little bit of literature I’ve come across on this subject it seemed like bears out west eat good. It’s the black bears on the east coast that eat garbage, fish, bait pile food, etc that are not good to eat. Is this true?
