One of their editors shoots with our clays club occasionally as a guest. She's rather attractive and can shoot quite well. She gets to go on some really nice hunting trips as a representative of the magazine.

The name Garden and Gun was taken from a nightclub that started out as a gay bar. It was in a big warehouse where Hank's restaurant now sits. Guys started noticing that there weren't many women in any of the other regular drinking holes downtown and found out the they were all going to the gay bar so they could dance and not get harrassed. Then guys started going the G&G to follow the women. It evolved into one of the most fun bars around during my time of running the streets. That was back in the "anything goes" era. Much fun was had. Thanks Goodness nobody carried cameras back then.

The magazine comes off as a bit pretentious but I've read a couple of the articles about places I had been to and their depiction was pretty spot on. Most of their ads make me feel poor.

y'all sure do find a lot of things to hate. its a freaking magazine with nice shiny pictures. how on God's green earth can you find the emotion and time to actually hate a magazine? i look at the pictures and like having the magazine at my office. oh and we landed on the moon and a plane crashed.
i swear if I gave a shit about y'alls opinion it really would be hard to keep up. I would have to make a list.

Consider the thread's originator; he seems to generally hate everything, so why are you surprised?

So this magazine was (already) poorly received by Duckers before this call business, correct?

    Who knows?

I don't read magazines. I saw that rag in a lobby somewhere and I took the picture with the sole intent of posting it here to make HS laugh. But now, 2oof is in here trying to tie this into landing on the moon.

Make fun of it if you like, but how else would you know where to buy a $1,200 oyster knife?

Seriously, I used to love reading magazines of all kinds. Cars, outdoors, and saltwater fishing specifically. It is just hard to really comprehend how the printed media companies have all but vanished. From newspapers to periodicals, hell even the "free" newspapers have folded up.

Now feel free to resume the fake flaming. MG

I wouldn't know. I don't have the pedigree to read that thing.

As an Alabama PWT trailer park kid I considered myself lucky to get to read the year old Outdoor Life and Field and Stream mags at the barber shop every couple of weeks when Jerry (pronounced "Jurreh") would gap up my hair.

Nor should you. But I know, deep down, you have an opinion on a $1,200 oyster knife.

I don’t mind it. I like PFE’s photography and the occasional article by Monte Burke. My families farm in the Blue Ridge Mtns. went up 10x in value thanks to G&G’s stamp of approval on the once sleepy area. Went from no-man’s land to Charlotte North over the last 10 years.

Somehow I have a subscription, no charges on any card of mine. I have probably 2yrs worth still in the plastic if anyone wants some free “sophistication”.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

    i like oysters
they should be eaten on wooden tables while drinking beer. a fire should be nearby. in a barrel.
use a screwdriver or $5 blue plastic handled oyster knife.
i have a QDMA Joe Hamilton Original and dont think i've ever used it...but i can always whip that thing out in front of HS if needs be....

my opinion of a $1200 oyster knife is not a good one...
