    Default Not thick as gnats…

    I sure wish they were.
Idalia brought me high hopes of freshly cut corn bottoms flooded out and packed with September teal.
The flooded out bottoms came, but the thirsty earth sucked it up faster than you could blink.
Every bottom I saw had a small flock of birds 3 weeks ago, and I watched nearly all of em dry up.
2 days before the season, an 8 acre bottom had dwindled down to no more than a basketball court puddle.
    We decided to try it.
Birds were few, but we shot what came.
I hope these Northeast winds bring us a few more, but if not…. I’m sure grateful for the hunt I did get.

Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.
