    Default Habitat....

It's been an interesting growing season to say the least. 18" in June, 10" last Wednesday.... Just crazy!
I've busted ass this summer and dealt with failures and pitfalls and still have so much to do before Thanksgiving.
But, things look good and very promising!
Never have I had so much good diversity in one pond as this year....Walter's millet, barnyard grass, foxtails, smartweed, panic grass, and spangletop galore.
Corn looks great with a little bit of storm damage and rice was finished off nicely by the hurricane rain.
I lost some crops from the excessive rain in June but have since recovered.
Amazingly, all the naturals are very abundant and there is still millet and chufa yet to finish.
Here's to good whiskey, cracking fires, the best of friends, wet dogs, hard blowing cold fronts and hoping it all comes together and old lady winter shows up! 20230907_174508.jpg20230907_174754.jpg20230907_174908.jpg20230907_175116.jpg20230907_181307.jpg20230907_181004.jpg20230907_175440.jpg

    Very nice.

I would have pulled the one stalk of Sesbania before I took the picture.

    That’s downright sexy.
    I need some sprangletop.

Save me some seed for real, nary a field up here has it.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

We've been saving some sesbania patches. Summer ducks and Teal seem to like and provides some cover for walk in spots. Those ponds look great, Cali! The natural food is a place I need to learn more about.
