Scatter's CWD thread got me wondering how many would continue to eat deer meat if/when CWD becomes an issue in our state?
Would you be more cautious? Only after testing?

"This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you." John 15:12
"Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord." Hebrews 12:14
It's been here for decades most likely. I bet every one of us on here has eaten a deer with CWD, and while that might explain some of you oddballs, we're all still alive.
To the best of current knowledge on the virus, it isn't in the meat. Only in the spinal column, brain, and lymph nodes. So unless you're making deer brain patties, you're good.

there you go again with your own thoughts....
Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.
get your google on and come back
first, tell me if SC is considered a state w CWD.
second, do the math on whether "every one of us" has eaten a deer w CWD.
then, see if humans have ever had CWD.
lastly, see what states that have CWD tell you to do with the meat.
granted, we can discuss the relative ability for google to give you facts, but i think its better than just making shit up that you think is right.
take your time. I'm in bible study with Mollie right now on free speech....

I'd eat it even if it came from a known positive and I know more about TSE's than I care to admit.
I'm more worried about Toxo and I'm not worried about Toxo.
Good luck with the Bible study.
Fine, be scared. I'm just gonna continue eating deer.
Just because SC isn't considered a CWD state doesn't mean we don't have it. Just means it hasn't been discovered in our herd, yet.
You're extra grumpy today, more than usual. Just relax, dove season opens in a few days.
I watched 28 days later.
I hunt pretty close to the cwd affected zone in Wisconsin. I nor anyone I know are afraid to eat the deer in that area. Now, if the deer were walking in circles and their ribs were showing, that might be a different story.
The county I hunt in in NC is a CWD watch area. The county I live in, which they border is not. I am not allowed to take a deer carcass from my club to my house unless I completely debone it first. I don't think I'm required to drop samples off of the deer for testing since it's in a watch county. This is central NC also, not the mountains.

After reading again, it looks like I do have to submit samples for testing during November.

How many of you have caught bird flu from cleaning or eating unknown sick doves / ducks / geese?
How many of you have caught brucellosis?
How many have caught toxoplasmosis?
Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease? Mad Cow?
I cook my food, I'm not worried about CWD.
Listen to your elders. Not because they are always right but because they have more experiences of being wrong.

The only one I'm cautious of is stuff wild pigs carry. I don't know if it's just hype or if I really need to be careful. I don't use gloves for cleaning any other animals but I did a couple days ago when quartering up 2 wild hogs.
But then at home when finishing up trimming and packaging I was bare handed.
Some guys won't touch a wild hog, won't even eat the meat. I wouldn't eat the backstraps medium rare like on deer, but I'll surely eat it.
I'd eat it but I'm still not eating reef donkeys.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Reading the title of this thread I cant help but think about that scene in Kingpin where Roy pays the rent.

I won't stop eating venison. My only caution, for myself, would be to determine if the processor being used (if not myself) mixes my venison burger meat with other's, versus processing mine by itself. But that's not really a new concern after watching how so many "outdoorsmen" mishandle their dead deer. Some of these people seem like they'd pick up week old road kill after chasing the buzzards away.

Fuck a buzzard. A man has to eat.
as long as you're not sucking the spinal fluid or eating grey matter should be safe to eat
Haven't kept up with new research, are marrow bones still good to go?
I just wish for once that this state would get ahead of something and go ahead and ban baiting before it shows up.
It’s coming. It’s just a matter of time, if something isn’t done before it gets here the bait piles will spread it like wildfire.
