I think the correlation to family education and likelihood of depression could more likely be linked to wealth and comforts of life. Michael Easter put out a book called "Comfort Crisis" that discussed the idea of "comfort creep" which explains why we are so unsatisfied with life despite living in the most technologically advanced/comfortable society that has ever existed. You would like the book, very well done.
