    Default 300 blackout thoughts?

What’s the pros and cons of a 300 blkout figured it be a fun one to shoot around and shoot pigs and yotes as well.
Now then, take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field, and hunt game for me.- Genesis 27:3

If you're planning on running it through a suppressor it's great as subsonics run very quiet. They're a lot of fun but the ammo can be difficult to come by sometimes and if you find it it'll be more expensive than a box of 5.56. If you're planning on shooting it out of an AR platform then you could get an upper and dedicated mags and use the same lower for multiple uppers.

    Pros:
    AR style (capacity & accessories)
    300 Energy > 5.56
Easily suppressed (depending on barrel length & load needs)
Rounds can function in MOST AR mags

    Cons:
    $/round
Distance (depends on round, barrel length, application)
Heavier rounds won't function in a few AR mags

There are many variables, dependant upon application. When AR pistols were still off-the-shelf legal, an 8.5" barrel would have been great for hogs, especially if suppressed. But, without a stamp, you're back to 14.5" and a pinned & welded FH to get your shortest legal length.

I'm in the middle of a bolt gun build (finished, actually - just waiting on Cerkote dude to say it's finished). It'll have a SilencerCo Omega 36M, eventually, and will hopefully work as intended on deer. Otherwise, it'll be a fun paper-puncher.

As an aside - suppressor purchases are now longer than EVER! I'm now on my 3rd week of waiting on my Form 3 for my FFL. Maybe I'll have this thing for deer season next year.

I just picked up a cva scout in 300blk to hopefully let my little girl hunt with. PSA has ammo for anywhere from 9-12 bucks . Has no recoil and my little scout will almost put them in the same hole. I think i will probably buy some of the 150gr fusions or 120gr barnes to hunt with though. They are a little more pricey. Ive also thought of loading some 150gr round nose meant for 30-30 to try in it.

I have had several for many years and freaking love it
Kills the shit outta stuff with Barnes VOR-TX or Barnes TAC-TX
Will kill anything in SC out to 150yrds or more
I have full size 16" and 10.5" SBR, with a Dead Air Sandman suppressor on it.......it is supper quiet, basically just hear the bolt closing
Never had issues finding ammo, usually buy bulk cans for plinking when i catch it on sale

I think the best thing about 300 blk is that an AR can be tuned to cycle with heavy subsonics at short range and also shoot deer capable 110 grain supersonics at ranges up to around 300 yards. I would have no interest in the cartridge in anything but a suppressed AR.

Outside of the AR platform it's really a one-trick pony and only really useful subsonic.

AR platform 300 AAC works well for it's design:
    Recoil is minimal.
Adjustable gas block will allow you to dial for various loads and or suppression.
200-212 gr. loads do not penetrate or expand as they would if moving 2800 fps but they do often result in DRT.
USMC Silver pointed out a 14.3"+ FH pinned & welded is a smart choice, I concur.
(don't grind & polish the weld smooth, leave some for proof)

My 10.5" SBR is the sweetest all around one I have owned, cycles subs and supers w/o adjustable gas block
and nothing heavier than a carbine buffer, maybe I just got lucky

Just picked up a ruger ranch in 300 with the intent to run subs and a can. Verry seldom do I shoot over 100 yards at my place.

I did not like the amount of sound from my AR .300 even when suppressed. Plus, my child found it heavy and cumbersome to carry.

I picked up a Ruger Ranch and to my ears, it is night & day difference in sound suppression. It's short, maneuverable and almost no recoil. It has become my child's go to weapon for deer hunting. I've tried a few different rounds but have had the best success with Hornady Sub-X and Sierra GameChanger tipped.

If I was doing it over again, I would look at other ranch rifles. My Ruger did not cycle well and took quite a bit of bolt polishing to get even remotely adequate. I believe Savage and Bergera both make them.

The Ruger Ranches are just like all the other Americans.... not the most polished, but dang hard to beat their accuracy for the price.

Did a quick google search....Howa, Savage, CVA, Remington all make 16" bolt guns in .300.

I only shoot subsonic in mine. I use it in places that may be close to houses when I dont want to shoot the bow. The 190 subx have been solid performers. I try to take bow shot type angles, broadside or quartering away. Or the head. We used it shooting deer over the summer as well and most of them would die within 50 yards.

Y’all rolling your own Hornady Subx or shooting factory? I was able to finally find some
    190 at midway to load.

We are shooting a Ruger Ranch 300 right now. And hopefully will report back soon on how well it performs. So far the recoil hasn't been bad. He just turned 8 and this will be his first deer. Open to bullet recommendations

Shooting factory. Mile high shooting usually has them.

Might want to check that kid's eye dominance. It looks like he's looking through that scope with his left eye. It's going to be risky and probably uncomfortable letting him shoot with a stock that is way too long for him.

Lehigh makes some really good bullets designed to expand at low speed.

Yeah I picked up a box at academy. Need to get some glass on this thing so I can start playing with it.
