    Default A/C repair in Chapin

Upstairs AC went out yesterday. Unit was frozen.

Anyone know a good AC guy near Chapin I can call?

    Thanks

I replaced my 9 yr old unit this week….. compressor went bad. It was $500 cheaper to replace the entire condenser than to repair the compressor. Told the dude to rip it all out and redo it all, handler too.

I’d be willing to bet you’ve got a dirty filter or a refrigerant leak. Turn it off and let it thaw. Change the filter and crank it back up.

I used Total Comfort out of West Columbia the last time. Showed up quickly and charged a fair price.

    Let it thaw

    Replace filter

Go outside by the condensing unit and have someone else turn the AC back on

See if the compressor kicks on, and the condenser fan.

If either doesn’t start, replace the capacitor for either the compressor or fan (whichever doesn’t start up)

Some units have a dual capacitor that starts both the compressor and fan so yoi would only replace the one capacitor.

Easy fix and definitely worth checking before calling an ac man.

A frozen unit comes from 2 conditions, restricted air flow or a refrigerant issue (compressor not working, or low refrigerant)

I had a contactor that was stuck/self welded in the closed position once. This caused the compressor to run continuously and freeze the coil. I had to run the unit in fan only overnight to get it thawed. $15 dollars later and 30 minutes to change the contactor had it back in business.

I hope you get yours fixed quickly.

Thanks for the input gentlemen. Had a few folks come out and take a look. It was a costly repair but we’re up and running again and I’m at least comfortable with the diagnosis.

Heyward is good people. I like to get feedback on these service folks. I always have clients, friends and neighbors asking for repairmen referrals and it's good to know who you can trust.
