Default I bought Walmart tires...and they were cheap...and I love them...

I've always been a Michelin LTX M/S2 fan. They were quiet and I got 100k+ miles out of a set. Then a bought a stupid Explorer with 20" rims - I didn't want the 20" rims they just happened to be on the stupid car - they don't make the M/S2 in a 20" and I hated my last $1,000 set of Michelins I put on the stupid car so I just bought a $576 set of Goodyear Reliants (Walmart exclusives)...they're great. Quiet, cheap and actually ride smoother than anything else that I've had on that stupid car. I've got $450 left over so I might buy a box of shells.

I haven’t been to a Walmart in over a year, no plans on going back.

Local shop sells Ironman. What is the consensus on these for an older truck for a teenager? Are they decent or will I be worried about him having a blow out and wreck? Do they last or wear out quickly?

Like anything, you get what you pay for. For the coin you’ll be fine.

People throw the word cheap around too much. Lots of quality products out there at lots of price points.

Homogeneous shopping goods are those that are similar in quality but different enough in other attributes (such as price, brand image, or style) to justify a search process. These products might include automobile tires or a stereo or television system.

    wbrown:

Ironman tires are good to go in my book. Had a set of their all terrains 265 65/18s last 60k with more to go. I was just wanting an upgrade to a larger tire.

I understand. In this case, though, aftera $67 oil change at a small business I support, they quoted me a $1,191.76 set of tires. I hope they appreciate the $25 premium I paid for the oil change but $600 premium for tires I wouldn't like as much was too just much. I hope you understand and, if not, at least forgive me.

Small businesses that deserve my business get it. There are plenty that don't because they suck at something (outrageous pricing, bad customer experience, lack of knowledge, etc.) I refuse to shop local "just because".

Yeah, the customer usually knows more than the person selling the product or service.
