    Default Bottom of the ninth

Or something like that. I have walked 100 miles in the woods this season, chasing these crazy birds. Had some close calls and even a miss early on. Good friend of mine called me last Friday and asked about my season. Gave him the rundown and he was kind enough to offer me his place for the last week of season. I’ve been after a stubborn bird the last few days. He gobbled his head off on the limb the first day, and wouldn’t make a peep once he flew down. Went back this morning for one last chance. Just like the last two days he hasn’t even gobbled on the roost. I was about to call it quits after looping around the place and not striking a bird, when a bird finally answered my call. 300 yard ditch crawl, and 45 mins of playing cat and mouse with him, I finally had my hands on him. It’s been a whirlwind of a season, with lots of good times in the woods with friends I call family. I’m just grateful the good Lord saw it fit for me to close the season on a high note. 1 3/8 spurs, 11” beard, 19lbs 6oz

That's a dandy and a great way to end the season.

    Is he your stubborn bird?

Where is your thumb in the last knee picture? Nevermind, I dont want to know.

Late season birds are the test of a man's skills and patience. Some times, you are rewarded with some long spurs. Congrats!! That is a fine Gobbler.

Hahaha. Got him home and cleaned up. Evidently the neighbors are doing the feeding which explains why he’s been absent in the mornings. He was full of corn and beans. Some folks just can’t seem to play by the rules
