Default My son's bird has racing stripes!

If you are on the fence about shelling out the $$ to get a turkey mounted, do it! The wild turkey shoulda been the official symbol of the United States of America. I got my son's first turkey on the wall yesterday, and while we were all admiring the overall beauty of all the colors from the head to the shimmering multitudes of colors of the iridescent feathers, I noticed something odd and super cool. This bird has a pair of matching, solid brown/black wing feathers...one on each wing. I don't know how common this is, but I've never noticed it on any birds I've shot in the past. Of course, that isn't saying much, as I just noticed it on this bird, and I've toted it 1800 miles across the country and have been admiring it for two weeks. Anyhoo, I like it, and they bumped the whole shebang up a notch or two for my boy.

Not uncommon. Glad you and your son are pleased.

I saw one shot last week in the PNW with a black wing feather. Pretty cool for sure.

I figured as much. I'm just glad he has a matching set; asymmetry bugs me. I'd rather shoot an 8 point than a 9.

Nice! Is it weird that the first thing that came to my mind when I looked at this picture is Chiggers? The ground just instantly took me back to a hike with my wife in Alabama shortly after we met that ended up in a really nasty undercarriage chigger situation for the both of us!

Benjamin Franklin wanted it to be the national bird. The eagle is a thief.

Way cool! I have been a part of hunts where 4 birds had a primary wing feather that was black. The first two were together in WV in 2001, the second was in WY in 2013 and another in FL about that same time period. A very cool and rare color variation!

That’s pretty cool and unique bird. I’ve got one at that taxidermist now and can’t wait to get him back
