Having never shot a pistol with one, what's the best MOA? I see a 2, a 3 and a 6.
What do ya'll go with and why?

I like the 2 moa personally.

Have a Kimber Custom .45acp with a Vortex 6moa on it. Also a Hellcat with a 6. You want a bigger dot on a pistol. You want something you can SEE on a handgun sight. The upside is they are twice as fast and more accurate than irons... all day!!!!!!

My main carry gun has a 6 moa and I've never felt disadvantaged with it. I have a 2 moa on another carry gun and it's easier to shoot at 50 plus yards but either will work on a torso sized target.
Depends on what it's for. Targets- smaller. CC- bigger.

Yeah, I think a 6MOA is perfect for what you're asking about. You're not going for precision...
I'm far from an expert but bears and lions are exact opposites when it comes to such things. A lion pretty much won't attack a human until it gets hurt then it won't stop until something's dead. A bear will attack without provocation but will break off and run away as soon as it gets hurt back. I saw a website not long ago that keep records of defensive use of firearms and pepper spray against bears. Guns, including a lot of 9mm guns, were 100% successful in defending against bears. Pepper spray was actually lower. I'll see if I can find the link.

I don't think this is the same site but a lot of the same information...

Timothy Treadwell would disagree.
Go to a store and check out the different brands. Look at the window size and configuration. I like the Leupold Deltapoint Pro personally.
Trijicon sro for biggest window. It’ll cost a little more than a holosun though.
I got a 508T I could see myself parting with if your interested
Unfortunately, two bears were killed by park rangers because of Treadwill.
But enough of the thread derail, back on topic.
Apologies to the OP. I'll shut up and listen now.
I ran across this review on Ammoland.
Has a 2MOA dot with a 32Moa ring.
It may not fit your pistol but the timing point sounds interesting.

Go with Trijicon RMR or Leupold Delta.
Holosun w 6moa for self defense

Fully enclosed would be my recommendation. Had an open emitter get some water in front of it and the entire lens was covered in dots.
Of the two I have, one has "shake awake" and the other requires buttons to be pushed to turn it on. It's really nice to not have to do anything for the dot to be on. The shake awake would probably stay on while riding in a moving car and use battery. Batteries will supposedly last for years even if you leave them on so it might not really be much of an issue.
I think both of mine are 3 moa. They have adjustable brightness so even the small dot looks big when the brightness is turned up.
The footprint is another factor that might influence which scope you go with. There are a few different styles and if you want the lowest mounting, it's best to go with the one that fits the native footprint instead of having to add an adapter plate. Some have a built-in rear sight notch that eliminates the need for the back iron sight and don't need a "suppressor height" iron sights in order to co-witness.
It takes some practice to learn to find the dot. If your gun really points naturally and has the ideal grip angle, etc. it might not be too bad. I originally had to practice to using the co-witness iron sights just to get the dot into the viewing area. The grip angle of a S&W Shield doesn't feel the same as a PSA Dagger so it takes some thought when I switch between the two.
