    Default Aquarium Fish Gurus

Sending a hail mary to see if anyone here is a fish health expert.

My daughter and I have an oscar in a tank. She named him Oscar, (go figure) but anyway Oscar is pushing 6+ years old. In the last two weeks, his belly has been grossly distended. He doesnt have swim bladder issues and he doesnt get fed much wild stuff, but every once in a while, the kids will bring some freshwater clams to put in the tank.

Websearch said to stop feeding him. He hasnt been fed in seven days, which he was kind of shitty about for the first few days but now pouts in the corner. I cant haul him to the vet for obvious reasons.

    Anyone have any knowledge?

I don't have a clue but I think it's getting time for a two-pronged strategy. 1) feed it some pregnant mosquito fish but Oscars don't live forever. So the second part of the plan is a 2) clandestine trip to the local aquarium shop to identify a look-alike replacement - if you find one, put some hold money on it. I call this the bait and switch.

I think that's what the democrats are doing with the Pennsylvania Senator...

When we had one growing up all we fed it was minnows and tadpoles. It ate everything we put in other than a pacu and a Jack Dempsey .

In all seriousness, and I really don't know anything about this but, if anything, I suspect internal parasites from the clams, especially if you're not seeing anything external like white dots or fuzzy fungus growth.

(I know you like old literature so I did all that with one sentence...)

How big is a six year old oscar? I'd think it would be the size of the tank now.

I'd need two of them to make a meal.
