Default Favorite wood for box call

What wood do you think produces the best box calls? Looking to purchase another custom call and looking for thoughts? My current go to is Yellowheart and Sycamore.

Going to depend on the call maker. Ask what he’s got in hand that he likes and suggests.

Some of my favorite sound though is from Bob Harwell’s Maple, Poplar, and Butternut. I have a few calls with a combo of those three and his Maple on those are the hen that I like to hear.

The most recent victim of a Maple Butternut combo, so it works…

Depends entirely on the sound you want.

I stepped on my favorite one last year and cracked it after i shot one and jumped up directly on top of it. Think I had 19 notches on that one. It died a good death.
It was just a very old Lynch’s Fool Proof nothing special but it sounded better than all my other ones. I have a feeling they don’t make them the same anymore.

These are all great sounding calls but the Al Willis is my go to box call.

That sums it up, but issue is hard to hear the sound prior to custom call being made. My old ears love the warm lower yelps

Lots of Turkeys have died coming to a Lynchs Foolproof. I love the richness of the old seasoned calls.
