I know there has been a lot of talk on here about ecoboost vs 5.0 but most of the vehicles for sale are ecoboost.i would prefer 5.0 but there is not much inventory. What do you think the chances are these years have any of the ecoboost issues everyone has seen out of the earlier years?

I am wondering the same thing, I have been a GMC Sierra and Silverado guy forever and
thinking about a Ford now, 4x4 crew cab, probably 2016 -2019 lowest miles I can find and holding out for the 5.0
Been looking for about a week and in no hurry, looks like buying from an individual is way cheaper from what i am seeing.
    Dealerships are still on drugs

Just my opinion based on a small fleet of vehicles. 11-17 5.0 is the engine of choice. 18-20 I would take my chances on an eco boost.

Think ‘18 was the year they had so many cam phaser issues, reading some things it was due to a bad supplier, some say bad design. ‘21 was the redesign that supposedly fixed the issue for good. I absolutely love my EcoRocket, truck’s a blast to drive.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Nothing to do with bad suppliers. It was an issue in 2011 and has been redesigned. 2017 was supposedly the good year. Now the bulletin has been extended to all models with the 3.5 built before Oct 31st 2019. So that’s the 2020 model year.

Not a supplier problem for 8 years, that’s an engineering problem. However everyone likes to blame the other, including Ford.

I have a 2014 Eco with 130,000 miles. One valve cover replacement and some coils recently. That has been it. Great truck so far.

My 2019 with the 5.0 is nothing but problems. We have several 2017-2019s all with the 5.0 and many of them are constant problems after 75k. We got an email the other day about the class action lawsuit against Ford for their “fixes” pertaining to the 5.0 issues including a dipstick with the fill lines lower down and “overfilling” the motor oil to make it look like it isn’t burning oil like it is. I would stay far away from a 17-19 or even newer with the 5.0 unless you trade often.

2014 3.5 eco-boost with 191,000 nothing but service, tires, brakes, and a coil pack. Been a good one.

I have a 2018 5.0 and I havent had any problems yet and I am almost at 115,000 miles. Bought it in 20 with only 25,000 on it so I have driven it a pretty good amount. I also take my vehicles to KRT so that probably also accounts for the fact that I haven't had any problems.

2019 Ford F150 4x4 3.5L EcoBoost 57,000 miles started sounding like a diesel truck (rattle) on first start up in the mornings, but normal after that. Ford dealer said it's the Cam Phasers that need to be replaced.
“You must teach your children that the ground beneath their feet is the ashes of your grandfathers. So that they will respect the land, tell your children that the earth is rich with the lives of our kin. Teach your children what we have taught our children, that the earth is our mother. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth. If men spit upon the ground, they spit upon themselves.”

2016 3.5 Eco Boost and just hit 150,000. Just had KRT replace a sensor and he did an ignition switch a while back but other than that, it has been a good one and I am not easy on it.

Best read the fine print of what's covered in a diesel and what isn't.
