    Default 1990 Defender Cummins swap

The Discovery LS swap went home so the next project has been started at Customs. We are taking the 2.5 litre turbo diesel engine that produces 68 HP and 114 foot lbs of torque and replacing with a 2023 Cummins’s R2.8 that’s pushing 161 HP and 310 foot pounds of torque. Pretty amazing for a 4cyl. It will be coupled with a 5 speed Tremic trans.

I’ll have a solid idea soon. Rebuilding the axles and all the suspension on this as well. I’d imagine it will hit close to 50k

Hav you thought about the 7.3 Godzilla in a CJ7 yet?
    Yup, he's crazy...

The engine alone is somewhere in the $8k range... I looked into one for my jeep and quickly realized it was not an option...

I am fairly convinced that a 90s defender is one of if not the toughest vehicle made. The one we have on the farm hasn’t seen pavement in id guess 20 years and it still runs like a sewing machine! And will go almost anywhere!!

The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

I like those Defenders but If I'm spending that kind of money, it would have to be LHD. It's not a deal breaker for the right deal, but after having a RHD vehicle, it's definitely an acquired taste and has some pains (especially with manual windows and drive throughs).

    Most excellent.

I have a deposit on account with American Powertrain for my Tremec TKX 5 speed.
They build good stuff for the aftermarket for sure.

    Strong
and I am just as impressed with the little things that go into this type stuff
like figuring out the wiring harnesses and motor mounts and transmission mounts,
    drive shaft lengths, sensors, etc
