    Default Trophy Hunt Club

Trying to figure out what I want to do next year. Lease is going up and they just cut a big portion. Entertaining the idea of trying to get into a good trophy club witching maybe an hour of Columbia. Hogs would be a plus. If anyone has or knows of something, please let me know. I have until the end of April to make a decision.

I know it would take some sort of witchcraft for me to kill a trophy.

I personally love fresh clear cuts for deer hunting. The deer will continue to walk the same paths with or without trees. Gives you a great idea where to create game plots and put up stands. On a crisp October morning you’ll see piles of deer roaming around.

Now the price may be too high but I would not give up the lease because of big clearcuts. It will be the best deer hunting on the place for the next 5 years or so.

I know a couple members in there. They just join for the pigs but the deer have to have a 15” spread. I don’t know what kind of trophy hunting you want to do. I know they are pretty strict with the rule.

Save the money and spend it on an out of state rut hunt in Ohio, Illinois, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska etc. Two weeks of daylight to dark in any of those states will give you better odds of bringing home a trophy than sitting for twenty years all year in most good clubs in SC.

The ones I’m aware have a common goal of letting whitetail buck deer get to a certain age structure before they get shot. All you need is acres, money and people that will follow the rules. The most successful ones that have been around the longest have large tracts broken into different blocks that the members have to themselves with a 2 buck per year maximum harvest. They kill very nice deer every year, they also don’t let strangers in.
