    Default Metal Detectors

My wife wants one. I know nothing.

What do I need to know?

    Any opinions on this?

There is a thread on here that has a lot of info. I got one for my wife two Christmas’s ago. Out of all the shit i have gotten her that was probably most excited I’ve seen her. It was around $350ish. They haven’t used it a pile, but found a couple of knives, lots of weights, and stumbled across a $20 on Edisto.
If you give 10 people a bag of gold, someone will complain about how heavy it is!

Im guessing reading death is important. 6 inches? 1 ft? 3 ft?

I fully expect her to use it for a few time and then quit when she doesn't find a Spanish medallion.

My wife did not find a Spanish medallion ... the metal detector now resides somewhere in my shop with a lot of dust on it.

It's useful to have one around even if you're not planning on scouring beaches while wearing Bermuda shorts, black socks and sandals. I used mine to find arrows that went under the target and got embedded under the grass, dropped fasteners when working on stuff in the yard, etc. I tried it at the farm once just to see if I could find any old artifacts but the amount of trash, nails, old fence wire, pull tabs, shotgun shell brass, etc. took the fun out of it quickly.

I didn't realize that a "good" one cost so much until I looked into them a few years ago. You looking at anywhere from $600-1,600.

That's what I'm considering after reading the old threads.

Do you ever find the arrows under the target? I usually find mine whenever cutting grass 30 yards away. One time I found one that was stuck 5ft high in a tree. I guess the hard clay does it.

I do shoot a Mathews, usually. If you shoot enough, you'll probably miss the target once or twice in your lifetime no matter what bow you shoot.

No, the arrow wasn't right under the target, it was surprisingly far behind it. I learned a similar lesson years ago thinking I could use a round bale as a backstop.
