Is Rinnai still king of the jungle in this space or do I need to look at any other brands?

You using natural gas or propane? I have a propane unit, and wouldn’t trade it for anything. Wanted gas, but that’s not an option out here. It costs me $85 every 5-6 months to fill my propane tank. That’s a good deal when you look at gas or electric costs to heat water

I replaced a rinnai with a noritz about 3.5 yrs ago. No problems yet. With that said, The Rinnai was 14yrs old.
Propane here as well.

Fogatti on Amazon has been doing well for me. Just put 2 on my house and have one on pole barn now.
They were $521 last week. Propane 145k btu
Nat gas.
Still looking into condensing vs non-condensing.
On condensing does anyone know if I can turn the vent in a downward position coming out of the top of the unit? It’s not hot and its only vapor so I would think I could. I see pictures with them vented 90* out the top of them. The non-condensing is too hot and needs traditional venting. If I go that route it’ll be an outdoor installation. If I can turn the vent down on a condensing then I can install it inside where my current water heater is under the stairs.

Navien is what you want.
Is this for the pool house or main house?
If for the pool house go with Rinnai or Noritz. If for the main house go with Navien.
Main house. You're pretty definative in your statement....why?
Godby is still installing 100% Rinnai, I have one thats a couple years old, bluetooth control, recirc, that i dont have in use since it heats up the system once its in use anyway.
That’s a name that is a blast from the past. VMI to plumber. As a citadel grad I use to give him hell when I was working the Ferguson counter.
I thought it was a hot water heater.
And I retract my above statement as I've been away from the plumbing side for a few years now. A good friend who installs these everyday said to stick with the Rinnai Sensei condensing unit. Navien quality has apparently gone downhill the past few years.
Be careful if you install it outdoors. During that deep freeze we had in the Upstate last month a large number of the frozen or burst pipes were on exterior mounted tankless water heaters. I can’t imagine not insulating the lines, but apparently a lot/most don’t.

Mine are in the crawl space and vented out. My grandmothers Rinnai sucks in comparison. It’s outside and finnicky in comparison to the Fogatti. We insulated the pipes and put 1” foam board box around the pipes inside the enclosure. Had no issues during this years cold weather.

Inside or out? I will say this. Remember the freeze at Christmas time? The people in in summers corner and the other subdivision behind them were walking from house to house with hair dryers trying to thaw them out.
