    Default Getting old...torn tricep tendon

I wish I knew how I did it, but after 6 months of pain, 4 dr's with bad diagnosis, finally had MRI and have a torn tricep tendon and horrible tendonitis. Anyone experienced surgery to repair?

I go to Venice in 8 weeks with my dad for his bucket list trip and then to Japan in July for 3 weeks for family vacation so going to fight through the pain until afterward. I'm tired of hurting and not sleeping but i'll be damned if I'm going fishing with an arm in a cast. I might not be pulling on the rod but i'd imagine the pain 4 weeks post surgery is as bad as I have now.

If you would like I go the entire rehab protocol for it. Can send that to you and it’ll give you an idea of the ROM and length in time all that jazz.

That would be great. Dr said 6-8 months full recovery but I have to have a nerve test before scheduling surgery. After thinking about it, I'm gonna fight the pain for 4 months for family. But then very much interfering with hunting season.

It’s not pleasant….why the nerve study?

PM me your email address and I’ll send over the PDF tomorrow. Just shoot me a PM tomorrow if I forget.

Mine has been torn for a little over 2 years. Every doctor who looked at it told me if I wasn’t rolling around in pain then I should decline the surgery because it was so painful and wasn’t 100%. It still hurts every day. Just not as bad as it did. I sort of wish I’d had the surgery and been done with it

shooting pain down 2 areas of forearm with rotation. If Dr needs to clean out anything I want to do it all at once.

Apparently I tore it in October...I can deal with the pain from it, but I've got so much swelling in the muscle, joint, and bone marrow. That is the painful part and nothing will make it go away. I can't take being on prednisone any more b/c I can't fit into any of my clothes.

Had mine done in 2020. Which end did it detach from? Mine was at the Ulna bone and was told I did not have to have the surgery but would only regain 30% of the strength in that arm. That was a no-go for me. Surgery was late July and I wasn't 100% released until late Dec. Pain, it was a bitch after the nerve block wore off. I've had 4 surgeries, broken bones, teeth knocked out....blah, blah but this was the worst I've experienced. Make sure you understand the pain med dosage and start them early. Keep up with the stretches and you won't have to do PT. Good luck and let me know if you need more info.

PS: You'll be amazed at how fast your muscles will shrink due to inactivity.

Ya'll are falling apart. At 55, I'm still on no medication or surgeries. Yet. Guess we'll see. But I still hit the gym 4 days a week and eat pretty well. Still weigh the same I did when I left the Marine in 1990.

Thank you for responding...that's the info I was looking for. Detatched from Ulna. My other issue with it is that I have RA and it keeps flaring in the elbow since I have an acute injury and that adds to the fluid build up in the joint, bone marrow, and muscle. Really surgery is the only option for me.

Can't attest to a tricep repair, but I had full pectoral rupture in 2019 that was repaired. Initial pain was excruciating to the point cold sweats, metal noise in my ears, tunnel vision, and nearly passed out. Minutes later the pain was completely gone. Can't do dips, barely can do pushups, it sort of works like it used to but I occasionally feel pain from it when tweaked. Your recovery will likely be a while and the PT I had to do was extensive for months.

I tore my bicep tendon and had it repaired very successfully, had a lot of rehab though.
