He ain’t scared of the water and will bring back to the hand better than quite a few “duck dogs” I’ve seen over the years

Most "trained" duck dogs I see need the narrow edge of a 2x4 between the eyes. Some of the most ill mannered critters in existence.

This is Doc. He will be 3 in April. I asked Rhett to find me a gun dog that would be a great pet. I’ve hunted with some true machines, and what they can do is incredible. I don’t have the time with young kids, not the environment to have one of those dogs. Doc is exactly what I asked for. He can roll on the floor with the kids, and flip a switch in the field. He’s really coming into his own this season. I was hoping for more wood ducks this year, but low water in our swamp has kept that from happening. He did manage to pick up his first pintails and a black on Saturday.

Them that don't know him won't like him, and them that do sometimes won't know how to take him

He ain't wrong, he's just different, and his pride won't let him do things to make you think he's right

They don't put Championship rings on smooth hands

“Duck hunting gives a man a chance to see the loneliest places …blinds washed by a rolling surf, blue and gold autumn marshes, …a rice field in the rain, flooded pin-oak forests or any remote river delta. In duck hunting the scene is as important as the shooting.” ~ Erwin Bauer, The Duck Hunter’s Bible, 1965

Just saw this post but he points and retrieves. Quail, pheasants, woodcock, Huns, sharp tail, whatever, he’s done a lot.

The first pic is of our dog named Buddy. Picked him up when he was almost five months old. When I got him home the first words out of my two year old daughter’s mouth was “hey buddy”. So he was stuck with it. The second pic is of a dog named Sport. The picture was taken in 1961. He was my grandads dog when he taught Agriculture at Hillcrest High School in Dalzell. Sport got to retire when he moved back to Laurens to help with the family farm and meat packing business. I think a dog completes the hunt.

This is my God Dog.. Really good friend mine’s hound.. I killed his 1st and 1000th retrieve.. And he picked up my first 7 Black Mallards in a wonderful week last year!!

This is Zoom.. Probably the best hound I’ve ever owned.. Extremely playful and goofy, until her collar goes on.. Then, she is a machine. She has been in a dozen catches and has killed 2 deer by herself.. Everytime she sees me she is overjoyed.. Thanksgiving day she wasn’t herself, she was towards the middle of every pack that crossed.. We caught her up, checked her feet and her joints, decided to take her home.. Filled her feeder, put her in the pen and Robbie heard a strange noise coming from her house.. She had 4 pups, couldn’t have been more than 2 days old.. She ran 6.3 miles with newborns in the box!! Had dogs my whole life, never suspected she had puppies, much less that she was pregnant or even bred.. Puppies are 2 months old and most big as a beagle!

Ashe is my niece.. Tender hearted and as loving of a dog as I’ve ever met.. Also looks like the Indian Bad guy on Dances with wolves, that rides his horse across the water before he is shot and bludgeoned with rifle stocks.. Huge Motor and perfect size!
