Default Looking for some suggestions on a youth 20 ga??

Thinking of Mossberg Bantam 88, 510, or possibly a Stevens 320...

    Suggestions?

Anybody have one collecting dust in a safe that their kids have outgrown?

My pops got me a Weatherby SA-08 youth in 20 gauge back in the day. Sweet shooting gun and very light easy to carry. I am used to the full size Franchi now, but I take the SA-08 for a backup at dove shoots. I am small statured feller and can still shoot it comfortably.

Franchi affinity 3 would be a good starter

IF they only offered it in a shorter barrel.

To the op the 1187 compact is the way to go if you can find one.

I tried the bantam route , the little gun kicked like a mule . Found a beretta a400 lite and it’s been great . As mentioned above the franchi 20s are solid too .

Looks like Franchi does have a compact model in the Affinity 3.

I had a youth Franchi affinity 20ga. That thing was a bitch to load. I'd stay away unless either you or your kid doesn't like your thumbs.

Mine started with a youth 870 and then to a Beretta once the son picked up shooting clays. I would recommend both.

This is what my kids shoot. Has shims to add as they grown. Cycles reliably and points well.

We have a Bantam in .410. Even that little sucker kicks. I hate those little Mossberg pumps.

I got my son an 870 youth field master for Christmas. Being he’s not even two, I’ll have to report back in a few years when he’s old enough to take it out of the box.

Weatherby Sa08 is really hard to beat. The one I have has been perfect for kids and my gf.

I think the youth 1100 20s are some of the best ones out there. My cousin Joe started his kids on one as well, no matter how much I give shit I give a friend for still shooting a 1100 series. I have a couple 391 20s, but with 30 inch barrels. *391s do have a youth option out there.. I wanted an easy auto for my one of my girls and bought a tristar youth.. this will be the only time you might see me not talking shit about Turkish guns. It worked for her.

20ga 391s kick way more than an 1100. I have both and the 1100 wins on recoil every time no matter the load. Both are good options for a youth though. I've already got an 1100 20 in the closet for my kid and that's what he/she will be shooting because I'm not going to raise my kid to be a dirtneck who shoots a plastic shotgun.

I have never shot it, but have been around youth that have; the Weatherby is a good youth gun, I don't think you can go wrong with that one.

ETA: The 1100s seem to give youth trouble loading with a stiffer action/mag spring and also the silver button on the loading port; the 391s and Weatherby's seem to be a lot simpler to figure out for a youth.

We have the mossberg bantam 20ga and super bantam 410. They do have some recoil but my 5yr old loves them. The super bantam was the only one I found that would fit his LOP at 10.5”.

ATA venza 20ga youth from Academy. Benelli clone from Turkey. I’ve had one for a few years now and it’s been great.
