Default First run of the year

I didn’t set any land speed records but going to start mixing in longer distances this year (as long as my knees can take it). I’m generally just a 3 mile guy every few days or so with weights just about every day. About to mix it up to drop about 10 lbs. And no Glenda…this is not a resolution. I’m just doing it and it happens to be the first of the year

I think that’s moving pretty good for 5 miles.

I started thinking about running the other day. Looked at some shoes. Even started to research a few apps. And now my knee feels like it’s got a gallon of water in it. It’s like it knows.

I doubt that calorie ticker is right. I’m not wearing a monitor or anything so I’m sure it based on some sort of average based on age, weight, length of run, time and elevation. I’d be shocked if I burnt nearly 800 calories but who knows.

Depends on the HR and duration. I burn about the same calories in a hour at about 150 BPM. So if you were really working hard it might be pretty close.

I just got a nice commercial grade elliptical. My knees wouldn’t take a pounding like that. For future reference, SC Sports Med down by trident has an excellent rating when you need the knees replaced.

Good job. I walked 5 miles this morning. Gonna have to ease into the running portion. My knees aren't too good, and my left ankle wasn't feeling great after the walk, but I'll get there.

Great work! If you are interested in a common sense training plan, “Run Less Run Faster” is a great book that has given me direction on not getting injured. That book and CrossFit has been the secret sauce for me the last 3 years. I use to fluctuate in weight from 210-245 when I just ran. Now I have held steady at 225-230 for 3 years
