    Default Mandarin Duck (Lake Hartwell)

A Mandarin duck was recently taken by a Clemson student hunting on Lake Hartwell...

I don't understand all the excitement and publicity over shooting an escaped pet. I would have taken a picture but not sent it to Field And Stream, Meateater, and every Instagram hunting page. It certainly fits in on the EastCoastWaterfowl page where they posted a cayuga (farm) duck and called it a duck/goose hybrid...

I bet someone is chuckling right now...

I bought a pile of fake indian arrowheads off'n amazon and scatter-chunked them across the fence to someone who does a lot of sifting (my dirt included) for artifacts.

I laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh.

In all honesty, the bird might be wild. Most bird owners band and clip the dew claws completely off of both legs.

A buddy was bowhunting the edge of our flooded swamp in 1984. After the hunt he came back and told us that he had seen a Harlequin duck swim right underneath him with a group of summerducks. We all laughed at him. The next Saturday he whacked the damn thing on a duck hunt and it was, of course, a Mandarin...

There used to be some mandarin ducks around the Clempson campus in that little park on the cherry road side of the stadium or the botanical garden

I'd be comfortable telling myself it was wild and telling others to fugoff

I mean, why wouldn't they be wild? North American ducks fly to Asia and back all the time...

I just read where two more were killed in East Tennessee and another was killed in Central North Carolina. All drakes.

No doubt that Hartwell will soon see record numbers of “duck hunters”
