How do you plan to set the set the big ridge beam?
I’m not doing traditional timber framing. I’m laminating rough sawn 2x’s. So I’ll set 3 individual 2x12’s on the braces and screw them together. The 6x6’s are not laminated but the side bead you see are laminated 2x10’s.

As it turns out, setting a laminated 2x12 ridge beam in the top of scaffolding without rails is a great place to talk to God and gain a great respect for gravity. It’s also an activity that makes your wife pray and children look on with amazement and a great time to teach them about leverage and fulcrum points.

    Nice work.

I expect y'all will love it when it's done.

I wonder how much Duck Tape's little shed would cost without the tax portion he alluded to...?

It was definitely the hardest day to date. If the ridge beam wasn’t enough, the up and down the scaffolding to cut mini studs for the gable end was a pain. I’m sure there was some math I could have done to cut them all at once to go up and install them but I didn’t. Lol. Up and down, measure, up and down, install, measure, up and down. Lol. It’s done though. I’ll take a different approach when I do the rafters.

Kicked the can further down the road today. Ended up cutting the bottom 6” of osb off and replacing it with treated plywood. Although the osb was a good 1/2” off the ground, all this rain lately showed me early in the process how much water it can soak up. Glad we got the rain so I can make the fix now before the siding went on.

You may have mentioned this previously but did you pour any kind of footer and/or how thick is the concrete it is on?
I just poured a big slab at my house and am weighing options.

Yes. Dorchester county required a 12x12 continuous footer with 2 strands of rebar. The slab and footer was a continuous poor…no cold joint.

I wish I had more time to knock this thing out. I think I’m going to take a few days off work in the next couple of weeks so I can get the roof on. Ran out of daylight today to finish the interior decorative truss. The red pops off the white and looks good.

More progress. I hope to get all the rafters set tomorrow (at least by next weekend)

    Yup, he's crazy...

like a fox. The dude may be coming in a little too hard and crazy but 90% of everything he says is correct.

Dorchester county or Summerville? Summerville can be a hassle, just curious how much they scrutinize these days. Looks awesome!

The county. I established a relationship with the county engineer early on. He’s helped me tremendously with codes and what they’d be looking for. He didn’t make me get engineered plans…he helped me with the drawings I had and stamped them after he added a few notes for me to follow, mainly around concrete anchors and strong ties for for uplift. He’s also the one that made me pour a continuous footer vs spot footers.

All rafters up and trimmed to length. I hope to get the fascia, outer truss, corbels and the other 6 post up tomorrow.
