    Default Safety Harness for KIDS

Since I don’t climb much anymore- what is the best and easiest to use harness for kids??
We are graduating from leaners and towers with safety straps in the tree, and I wanted both of my boys to learn to climb and hunt lock-ons and need to start them properly. Thanks in advance

Why did you scream the word "kids"?

Muddy makes a good youth harness.

No matter what harness you decide on it's useless if it's not attached to the tree whole time. Buy or build a bunch of lifelines and put them in every tree.

Johnny is correct. Some (most) of the time it’s really hard to get folks here to stay on topic.

Sounds like a good plan but I’ll need more explanation on life lines and such. I don’t speak Tethrd Saddle

A lifeline is just a rope that you attach to the tree above the stand and to the base of the tree. As you climb you slide your tether up the rope via a prussic knot. That way you're attached to the tree from the moment your feet leave the ground.

I have 1 youth harness made by Gorilla Gear. Send me your shipping address and I’ll send it your way. Please pass it on when they outgrow it.

Just like Costal woodie said they work well, use them even when climbing. On my lock on i have the 30 foot that hangs the length of the tree and you slide knot up as you go. On my climbers i have the 6 foot that wraps the tree and you slide the rope up as you climb. They look like this.

I have and use an XOP saddle, $99 at Midway and Amazon. It can be use as saddle or safety harness, comes with all you need for both. I would say it will fit most 12 yrs old or older.

Have we really devolved to a point where a kid has to put on harness to climb a tree? Bicycle helmets are bad enough...

I would think falling 20 feet out of a deer stand and landing on the roots of an oak tree might be worse than falling off a bike. Just my opinion.

    saddle

    there i said it.

PP- i think i got a youth harness too. I'll check.

IMO, I would start my kids with a "normal" vest type before going to climbing harness or saddle.

i understand the lifeline but am not putting one on every stand.
(I should add I am not a great parent and my kids didnt wear bike helmets or life jackets)
Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.
