Screwed up a close headshot on a doe almost straight below me about 25 years ago. Could not figure out what happened. A couple weeks later helped a hunter on adjoining land drag and load a doe he had shot. She had a 30 caliber hole in her ear.

Dang I hate to see one suffer like that; hope you whack him.
I think he was shot in the jaw but not intentional with that rack.
May have been running across a field when someone threw a gun up and shot at him.
    Leading him too much

It is. And for reference look how closely I I am holding him to me. No bill dancing. What's left of his head is resting on my knee. And my head is about 14" wide

This is a crazy thought but y’all bear with me here. Is it within the realm of possibility that someone tried to shoot him in the head because that’s all they could see?

I have a Facebook account for 2 reasons. Marketplace and sc deer hunters page. Hell I don't even have any fiends or a picture. One visit to the sc deer hunters Facebook page would give you some insight on what people are possibly aiming at

I don't remember reading most of them. That seems like yesterday but it was Sunday October 19 2014 when I killed the deer. I didn't even have kids at the time. Now I got 3. Crazy how time flies

Crazy how a deer can lead to something like this website where I've made some real good lifelong friends.

Me too. As much as I like tipping theme over seeing one walk around like that makes me feel sick

If some of those folks on there don't make you feel real good about yourself then you got a problem

yeah, I quit those.. head shots, and people like that facepage group walk amongst us on here. I like my circle. I'm ninety percent sure that I'm not going to get shot.. a hundred on tresspasses, and the same on the fun/cool meter.

    its interesting how things happen.
i cringe when i hear "i shoot them in the head bc that way I know if I missed bc it ran off."
thats wrong and silly and just stop it.

the head sure does move a lot. why in the world that became "cool" I will never know.

My buddy shot a 10 point Monday evening near Walterboro that had a big stinking hole in his neck. You might get by fine with taking neck shots until you don't.

I had my epiphany moment many years ago when I knocked a big doe down with a neck shot. Some pigs ran out into the lane as soon as she fell and I took my eyes off of her and shot one of them. When I got down, she was nowhere to be found. I looked for hours and never found her. I'm pretty confident the wound would have been mortal but not necessarily quick. I took neck shots out of my repertoire. I have only once taken a head shot on a buck in tall soy beans. He fell like lightning hit him but I decided to never try it again.
