Been meaning to post this for a while. Had an afternoon off from school and all other activities, so we went to the woods to try and get Jackson a deer w/ his bow. Got in the ground blind around 4:00 and at 5:30 we had two does walk out. They walked down the road beside the old logging deck and came within 5yds (thought they were going to stick their heads in the blind). After a few minutes they step out to about ten yards. He comes to a draw, settles in, and lets the arrow fly right over her back by 5". 1st doe ran off, but this one jumped back to the left and just stood there confused. I hand him another arrow and tell him to try again. After a few minutes, she presents a 2nd opportunity at 15yds. Same scenario, he draws back and lets it fly about an inch over her back this time. I look at him and he is totally dejected, but the deer hadn't run off so I hand him his last arrow and tell him to calm down, focus, and try again. She finally presented a 3rd chance and at 18yds he was able to connect w/ a perfect shot. He went from dejected to excited and shaking in a few minutes. We were hugging and yelling as we could hear her fall in the cutover. Don't think I have ever seen deer so hell bent on dying, but thank the good Lord that she was and for the memories that she helped make as well as the meat she will provide. Needless to say, I was a proud Dad that day.
