    Default Some Fall Fun

Living in Columbia, I have a lot of friends that haven’t been exposed to the outdoors, much less expose their kids. We try to make it a point to get those folks to our place as often as possible. My kids love to share it with them, too. Lots of first deer, first bucks, and lessons learned this fall.

No, but I think that’s next. I think sliced seared heart is appropriate.

One thing I will implore of each of you, it is awfully easy to drop the deer at the processor. Clean the deer with the kids. Talk anatomy. Talk about where meat comes from. Point out the organs and muscles. Our kids aren’t growing up around the pitcher pump at Sumter Wateree like we did. Share it with them and be intentional.

Damn right. My daughters won’t get bloody but they will sure watch. They call the beef on the table by name and fully understand where their food comes from whether it’s the garden, the pasture or the coop. So many kids today have no clue

Salt, pepper, and flour...fried in an iron skillet. Not much that's better.

So much right in this thread. My 9yo daughter will gut a chicken and tell you what each thing does before she splits the gizzard and washes out it's last meal.

Oh I get it. I just haven’t pushed that narrative, yet. It’s a challenge to get the kids to gather round for the real bidness. I am committed to heart going forward.

One thing for those of y’all with young ones, suppressors are incredibly valuable. To be able to communicate with the kid, zero recoil, they enjoy practice, kids shoot larger calibers, etc. I’ve had 3 first time killers shoot a suppressed 308 with a 155gr Berger that would’ve easily thought it was a red Ryder
