Is it true that Fly fishermen who like to tye their own flies like wood duck skins with feathers to aid?

Autumn feathers: Rephrase your question. If you are asking if people tie flies with wood duck feathers, the answer is yes. THe lemon colored feathers near the ummmmmm, I forget where. They are used for tying wings on dries. Anyone correct me if I am wrong. Its been ages since I tied anything. Po me!

wish i could tell a lie....

but i only caught one fish. lots of water coming thru my favorite streams made it tough to even STAND in some of them. most fish were holding in deeper pools and with the flow as fast as it was, it made it hard to get the fly down deep enough.

good news is that we only saw one other fisherman the whole day, got to fish with snow falling, and had 6-8 bites ... but only one caught and released.

The flank... Flank feathers are used on dries, nymphs and wet flies. Breast feathers are good for caddis.

Mallards have a lot to share also.

No Orvis here. You can flyfish without Orvis...

    Wish I was fishing...

those flank feathers are why woodies took such a hit in years past, most woodduck flank is now actually dyed mallard flank feathers.... but I still like the original on my zug bugs.

I would never tie my own either. We tied them for fun at work when things were slow.

Why not just throw a cast net?

Wouldn't that be the best way to catch baitfish?
