    Default Mottled ducks?

Decoyed together. Killed in coastal NC where black ducks are fairly common, but these look a little different. (Coloration, buff chin, black gape)

Look like mottleds to me but I'm sure some will disagree.

swamp pig - I’ve seen a couple pairs in the far southeast corner of NC, out in the salt marsh.

Some privately held spoil ponds near the SC border.

I’ve jumped a few fishing and they went into the spoils.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

Mottled duck - black drakes do not have any buff edging on their shoulder feathers.

Interesting, these were killed a ways up from the border. Didn’t realize they wandered this far north.

I remember seeing them at July billfish tournaments at Hatteras long ago...

They’re still in the area JAB. I know a few spots that hold them annually.

Soot black with the purple speculum not something you see very often. Maybe once a year we see the true black on the property.

I've seen a hen black duck with her brood in a Pee Dee River swamp beaver pond in northern Chesterfield county in June.

This was prior to the introduction of Mottled ducks.

Never heard of mottled ducks in the OBX. Black ducks on the other hand, nest there. Pretty common to see them year round.

Yep. That's what I was alluding to. Black duck nest in NC down to the SC line.

    ....or used to.
