U.S. Army Corps Hosts Youth Waterfowl Hunts at Richard B. Russell Lake
    USACE, SAVANNAH DISTRICT
    Published Nov. 7, 2022

CALHOUN FALLS, S.C. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, is organizing youth waterfowl hunts at the Richard B. Russell Project to take place during the months of December and January for youth participants ages 9-16.

Hunters will be selected by random drawing, and those selected to participate will be contacted with tentative hunt dates. The drawing for the first hunt takes place Friday, Dec. 2. To register for the drawing, hunters must call Brandon Dickey at 800-944-7207, ext. 3408, at the Russell Project Office no later than Dec. 1 at 4 p.m.

A parent or guardian must accompany all youth hunters, and will be permitted to hunt and shoot waterfowl, too.

All hunters, the youth and their parents/guardian, must check in at the lake project office at 4144 Russell Dam Drive, Elberton, Ga., and must be licensed in accordance with existing Georgia Hunting Regulations, including the Migratory Bird Hunting License and have state and federal waterfowl stamps. All state regulations and bag limits will be strictly enforced.

“The Georgia Migratory Bird Stamp is required for all migratory bird hunters (doves, ducks, geese, woodcock, snipe, coots, rails, or gallinules) who are 16 and older, even if a hunting license is not required,” according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Division, website. “This stamp is how Georgia participates in the federal Harvest Information Program (HIP), and hunters must obtain a new Georgia Migratory Bird Stamp each season. A Federal Duck Stamp is still required for hunters ages 16 and older if hunting duck and geese. Resident youth hunters, ages 15 and under, get a Youth Sportsman's License.”

For information about obtaining a hunting license, visit Hunting License Info or Georgia DNR Licensing. For hunting regulations, visit Migratory bird hunting. To learn more about hunting waterfowl, visit Waterfowl Hunting 101.

Legal firearms and ammunition for waterfowl hunting are identified in the Georgia Hunting Regulations for Waterfowl.

For questions about this hunt, please call 800-944-7207 or 706-213-3400.

These are pretty good hunts, took both my boys and my nephew on these when they were drawn. They usually will cancel and let you know if they don’t have some ducks.
