We brought along a sled, a dozen decoys, waders, and a box of steel shot each. Neither of us are too big on ducks but we found some yesterday and figured we’d try them as well. After an hour or so we should’ve had our twelve but decided to pack up and head back to what we came here for.

The dogs are tired, especially mine after ducks this morning; so we decided from the get go that we were just going to hunt two places today and call it a day by lunchtime. The first spot was good for two roosters, and the second was good for our last four. We and the dogs were both very grateful for a much needed easy day.

    Great pics.

There are two types of cat tails. The vertical and the ones the wind has blown over. Walking against the grain the the wind blown is just not happening.

Ducks were a nice starter again this morning.

After we duck hunted we went back and napped and didn’t start pheasant hunting until 2. Hit two fields and put four birds in the vest.

Had my most memorable bird of the trip in the second field. A runner; Callie was tired, I was tired, but she found him in the middle of the field and completely changed gears. She kept looking back at me as she was trying to follow him and looking back and telling me to keep up. It would be foolish to not listen to a bird dog, so I high stepped and followed as best I could for about two hundred yards as she zig-zagged back and forth as the bird ran. She finally put him up in the air and I dropped it on a very long shot. Callie instantly laid down after she brought him to me. We sat for a good while; a well deserved bird and the most memorable of the trip.

We almost went home after that, but decided to try and finish it out on one last field and had yet another memorable moment. My brother brought his 18wk old English Cocker with no plans of hunting her; only to get feathers in her mouth, smell birds, ride in the kennel, and hang out with the big dogs.

When we get to to the last field, he very hesitantly decided to run her along the big dogs. It’s a relatively easy field for a little dog. I kill my last one. Shortly after, Val, my brother’s Cocker, finds/wanders into a rooster right on the field edge, and my brother nails it. It was a sight to see.
