Default Camry Wagon Rear End ‘Loose’ on Right Hand Turns…

As titled, my wife has a ’93 Camry wagon, which is in darn good shape with about 250K miles on it, and she wants me to ‘keep it running…’.

Last Fall/Winter she said something about the rear end feeling like it was slipping on turns (not at corners, but curving roads). I couldn’t find anything wrong, and the shocks and struts all seemed fine. So I added 100 lbs of weight over the rear axle and it seemed to help.

This past week she said that it’s doing it again, and specifically on right hand curves starting around 35 mph.

The tires are all in decent shape (>50% tread) and only a few years old.

Again, I couldn’t find any obvious issue, so I added another 50 lbs.

I’m guessing that it’s either the model of tire (I’ll have to check what’s on there), or a strut/shock is starting to go bad. I’ve never felt a bad shock or strut so I’m not familiar with any subtle symptoms.

Any ideas on what it might be?

I'd take it to one of our sponsors to diagnose. Plenty to read about it online. See below.

ADP, thanks for the find. I wasn’t sure what to look for and obviously didn’t use the right terms. I think you’ve nailed it.

I’ll call Killian’s for an appointment m. They’re not conveniently close, but they’re good and trustworthy.

    Thanks.
