    Default How much wax

Do I need to order. I'm going to be dipping 6 or 7 traps using an old enamel canning pot. Will 5 pounds be enough to cover the traps one at a time or do I need to order more? I'm completely new at this so help a brother out please

I don’t think 5lbs is enough. It seems like I started with five lbs but had to order more. I bought a pot to dedicate to wax. I just keep adding to it year after year and the pot just stays in the shed with a lid on it.

In my opinion, yes 5 lb will be enough.

If you are near the midlands you can borrow my wax pot and dip your traps.

    Or

Instead of ordering online…if you have a Hobby Lobby near you go there and purchase this block of craft wax and sign up to get the 20% off coupon online. Not sure if it’s still the case but that is what I did after reading that diy tip on a trapping forum.

5lbs may be enough if the pot is small enough. I think I bought a 10 qt pot for my wax so 5lbs didn’t cover the entire trap and I had to roll it around to get it covered.

I have a 10 quart metal bucket that i use. In it 5 lbs is not quite enough to cover the whole trap. You can roll the trap and cover it but 7 lbs will fully cover it. I do like realtight and add to it each year if needed. I cover it and store in the shed. I bought a 4 gallon bucket this year with a locking lid that i am going to switch to this year.

Everything I could have ever hoped for. Typical day I get up early. Drink coffee and meditate on how much I appreciate the life God has given me. Cook a lite breakfast for me and the wife. Go to the Y for an hour or so. Drink more coffee. Go to a 12 step program I've been a part of for 38 years. Cook lunch. Work on little projects around the house or play in the shop until time to go to the deer stand. Come home, watch the Braves and read some junk novel. Go to bed and do it all again the next day. Throw in grandkids and the one cleaning job I've held onto and my days are pretty full

I would recommend Full Metal Jacket. One gallon will be enough. Much easier in my opinion than wax.

Oh. If you were around Greenville I was going to make the same offer as Johnny reb. I bought a 12 quart stock pot from family dollar for 10 bucks and ordered a 5lb block of wax, then two or three 1 lb blocks from cabelas. Take a hammer and break the 5 lb block BEFORE you unwrap it, melt that and add 1 lb'ers as needed. Make sure your traps are dry from the dye before dipping them in the wax (trust me on this). Sorry if you already know all this, just trying to keep you from making the kind of mess I made the first time I waxed traps.

And don’t get the wax too hot. Literally…just hot enough to melt the wax.

My personal preference is to use black wax. But that’s just something weird I bought into when I started trapping.
