My dad got back from the Chesapeake Bay a couple of weeks ago and they wacked'em. Biggest fish was in the mid 30's but the numbers were the best in several years. They have eclipsed the 40 mark the last two years but the numbers were much better this year. That means NC should be turning on about now.

The Outer Banks are going off right now and have been for about a month. They are aggravating as hell typically if you don't have a boat. They tend to work about 200yds or further off shore mostly. There have been quite a few taken out of the surf lately but you just have to be at the right place at the right time when they push the bait up on the beach. Most of the fish are coming off of the shoals right out of Oregon Inlet which is a horrible inlet to run if you are unfamiliar with it. Take a look at the daily fishing reports at http://www.oregon-inlet.com/ to see what caliber of fish they are catching.

Check out "ncwaterman.com" site fishing reports, the stripers are thick at oregon inlet right now, and will be at cape lookout soon by all indications (lot shorter drive), good luck!

fished oregon inlet just before christmas and limited out both days with 22 to 26lb stripers. most were caught on eels, some on bucktail jigs trolling. they are definitely coming down the coast line.
