    Default Safety Harness

Been 10+ years since I bought my last harness. I use a life line on all my stands but I need a new harness. There’s a million options. Anyone bought one recently they love?

I don’t even have a clue how to use that. My old one is a vest style with a strap and a carabiner that comes over my shoulder. I clip in and slide the knot up as I go. Where do you attach to the lifeline with that style? Excuse my ignorance.

Attach it right to the loop in the front. I have a short piece of Oplux I hook from the loop to the lifeline so I can adjust it as needed on the way up and down and once I get in the stand.

It’s so much better than a traditional harness. If you ever were to fall, you’re facing the tree with the ability to self recover. Unlike traditional harnesses where you’re hanging there with your back to the tree until somebody comes to get you or you’re dead from the circulation being cut off.

Interesting. Thanks for the recommendation. Watching YouTube videos on it now. Looks easy enough.

No problem bud. It’s a game changer. I’ll never have another traditional harness.

You only need to learn how to use some basic rappelling gear (harness and belay device) as it provides you with a much safer way to let yourself down. Or, if need be, climb the lifeline back up to your stand with the prusik knotted foot loops. It also helps ensure that if you fall you will be facing the tree and not stuck hanging looking out and not being able to reach anything.

That being said, since I haven’t yet replaced my harness with the rock climbing style, I’ve modified my setup to have a belay device at my waist, the loose end of the lifeline run through the belay device and tied off at a side loop so I can release it when needed to control my descent.

Good post as it serves as a reminder to run a few practice drills.

Yep. When I hunt out of pre hung/fixed stands I just clip in to the ridge of my saddle. Way better than a harness. Much safer.
