    Default Seed storage- Chiwapa

A buddy had me pick him up a spare bag of chiwapa millet, but he never used it. Any knowledge about on how to best store it? It’s currently in a big brown paper bag that’s not very well sealed

I was planning on double trash bagging it and then keeping in a closet until time to plant next summer. Any other steps necessary to keep the seed usable for next summer?

Actually? Not sure if you’re an alt account to the merkin guy…

If I do freeze, do they need to be air sealed?

Don’t freeze it, do exactly as you were planning and it’ll be fine.

I’m awaiting the definition myself but I distribute a lot of seed every year and know a little. We’ve sent beans and cotton seed to cold storage in the past but it’s certainly not frozen storage. Small seeds like millet/sorghum/clover/turnips , well they seem to save forever with little effort if you can keep the bugs out of them. I planted some 4 year old brown top and had a hell of a stand. Keeping it in moderate temps is the ticket IMO, I need freezer space for fish and deer, not seed. Hope this helps.

Appreciate it boys. I’ll hedge my bets a bit and post an update come next summer for any interested observers. Perks of playing with house money
