Nice as a day boat, doubt you’d want to travel on one.

Doubt my wife would want to travel on one.

I endured living on a 30 ft sailboat as a youngster.

I’ve been on a few in that size range. And I’m not as knowledgeable as some of these guys, but if I was ever blessed enough to be able to purchase a boat like that it would be a Ricky Scarborough.

Plan on spending 1-2 weekends a month on it working if you want it to look worth a shit and have everything on it working if no capt or mate. That’s a lot more maintenance than turning the key on your outboard you’ve been doing.

There are a pile of boats that fit your criteria, as fish said, you need a broker. For your budget you can get a lot of boat…..no way I’d buy production (Viking) unless you just want bling and are willing to sacrifice ride. I’d buy a wooden custom…….you may not be able to grab a Spencer for your budget, but there are tons of others like Weaver, Howell, B&D, etc….that will be in your range. Tim Gredick is in Charleston and is good……knows more about boats than most.

Unless you got a shit load of time, the upkeep is going to whip your ass, particularly because you won’t live near it. As you begin to look, it is usually obvious the difference between a captain maintained boat and one maintained by the owner.

    50 Blackwell

A few other options. Omni sonar and a sea keeper would be higher on the list than a 30knot cruise.

    Mr. Tape,

Will you be holding mate tryouts? I'd like to apply if so. I can cook, too.

I hate maintenance. I will clean the fish but the engine room is not for me. My sons will tinker with maintenance. I want a captain, first mate and a galley maid, but....

Better be ready to open that wallet and just let the money fall out. I love a sportfisher, but they may be the single biggest blackhole to throw money in (except maybe a plane or a woman). They just suck it right out your pocket. But, I'm sure you know that

The real $ in sport fishers piles up with the interior.

You should be able to find a bare bones fishing ride for under or right at a million.

I would personally go up to Wanchese. You’re gonna want a Carolina boat.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

That 50 Blackwell is a machine. Not a 4 stateroom boat but a fishing machine
