I've never done one before, but it seems like you would want the drain area of the shower to be lower than the rest of your bathroom. So you would really need to bring the shower floor down below your 3/8'' and build up a slope like BB is saying. Probably wouldn't need much slope as long as your drain is efficient and your shower head isn't putting out some high volume or multiple heads, doesn't look like that from the picture.

    Buncha kweers.
Actually... I did mash the attachment and told me the file was invalid. So there.

The 5/8" mudbed IS the slope. 1/4" per foot and it's 32" from the furthest point (corner) to the drain. The FloFX is the drain and it sits 3/4" above the Ditra, which lays on the plywood. I'm trying to figure out the amount to take off the top of the floor joists with the plywood finishing even with the tops of those - in other words, the elevation to set my 2x4's on the sides of the joists so I can trim the tops of the joists with my precision sawzall.

    I'll figure it out.

You are going to need some meth to do the tile the way it is normally done. I think it is an OSHA rule...

Thanks, Charlie. I knew I could count on you - and that's just about where I will end up. I have it at 1 3/8" below the existing floor now, but I'll likely go ahead and make it 1 1/2. Easier to build up then to end up proud of the existing floor level after tile. Appreciate it....

Well, I can't read your mind. I could barely read your handwriting.

You ought to know asking a question on here obligates you to at least one page of spam sandwiches as well as a few folks who stayed at the Holiday Inn last night.

Look into kerdi board and you may be able to find a kerdi pan to fit that shower. Simple stuff to use if you can do math.

Went ahead and bought the Kerdi shower pan and am picking it up tonight. Got the round FloFX drain coming too - already had the square but need the round to work with that pan. In the end, it's just so much easier than dealing with the mud base. Will do kerdi board on the walls too.

Still have a little math to do but this will be easier than troweling in that dry pack mud base.

So I have an unopened square FloFX drain if anybody needs one. Got a 36" linear drain too, for that matter.

Gotta go multiple shower heads and/or body jets while it’s torn out.
