More fuel = more boost!!
I’m seeing a few on FB market place that say running rough due to timing chain.
At that point is it basically safe to say needs a motor when it comes to the 5.4?
Sweet baby Jesus that looks expensive.

Just out of curiosity, How many miles were on this truck? Its around the same year as mine and I'm wondering how much longer I have haha
I’m a ford guy but they really dropped the ball between 6.0,6.4, and 5.4 in early 2000’s. Just flat out sucked.
"And ignoring people on here....that's like being home schooled. Just say you're not ready to face life." Highstrung
I had a 5.4. Lifter stuck and blew the motor at 50,000 miles. When I sold it with 120,000 miles it was knocking pretty bad. Also had the 6.4 after that and while I loved the truck always knew it was a ticking time bomb.
For the ducks
I had a '04 F150 with the 5.4. It was good for the first 200,000. After that, cam phasers and timing chain issues. Traded at 238,000. It was still running but knocked pretty bad when you started it in the morning.
I now have a '13 F150 with the 5.0 and like it much better.

My 05 is still kicking at 201K.. It has some rattle upon first start up from the hydraulic chain tensioners loosing oil pressure tension over night. And I have a crack in the exhaust manifold as well I believe. I know it's time is coming, but I'm still holding out.
As I currently am looking for a well used but reliable truck, this gives me more to worry about when searching.
I appreciate all the info on this site even though it makes shopping even harder on me.
Do you have to take the body off every truck to work on the engine these days or does that just make it way easier? I pulled the motor from my 87 GMC S-15 in high school but that was when engines were way more simplistic.
I've got an 01 with 405k on the odometer. Still running like a champ.

At 200K go ahead and tear it down, put chains , guides, tensioners, phasers, high pressure oil pump, coils and spark plugs and go another 200k
