28 yards and at a waterhole. Had a few close stalks in the morning but went to the waterhole midday and they started pouring in.

The ones I’ve killed before out here have tasted just like a whitetail. But I keep them on ice in a cooler for a week so that may help. Some people don’t like them but so far mine have been great.

Great work. I personally like the photos more where the hunter smiles. Makes a better picture in my opinion.

Good luck, you always seem to kill a big one out there.

Folks out here are about 50/50 saying they taste good/they taste bad. Most of the folks that don't like it say it tastes too sagey. The steak cuts are better tasing than oak eating eastern whitetails, and the rest makes incredible breakfast sausage and brats. I add sage to food, so I think its fantastic. Two things for certain if you ever come out and kill one if you want good meat...make a good clean kill shot and get it opened up, gutted, and cooled down quick. They are insanely high body temp creatures with a super thick coat baking in the sun all day every day.

We’ve got a good spot. I’m thinking about taking a shotgun with me. It’s just me and my son this year and I saw a shitload of ducks and sharp tails last year. Both will be open while we are there.
