We're prob gonna impose an 8 bird limit
Checked the Sat field today, had 50 or so on one of the lines. Not excited, but not disappointed either.
Will check the Wednesday field later this week.
The powerline on Camp and Riverland is loaded.
Been flushing the same amount out of the surrounding sod fields as the sunflowers.

Sadly, our field died with the drought.
We look decent. 10 bird limit gets you another hunt I am convinced of it.
cut\'em
We are imposing a 3 bird “gentleman’s limit” and going to shut the field down at 12:35 to let the birds feed. As we fight over who’s vest is waxed the most.

Call me crazy, but I saw a good amount of birds 2 weeks ago. Seems to be considerably less right now. I am talking about a general area, not just a specific field.
I have a lot less birds than this time previous years. Plenty of food and clean dirt.

My sunflowers look like a total failure this year due to weeds. Sesbania, crotalaria and morning glory have suffocated the field. There is a smattering of birds but you'd need a damn good dog to find a dead bird in it.
I sprayed roundup three weeks ago and was expecting to see a dead, dried up field yesterday but it only stunted the weeds. I resprayed again yesterday with a stronger mixture and I'm hopeful it will kill most of it. The flowers also look like they have already dropped most of their seeds. I'm hoping I can still salvage some late season hunts in the corn.
I'm not sure what happened to cause all the weeds. My guess is that the weeds were suppressed by the drought when the post-emergents got applied and by the time we finally got rain, the chemicals had lost their potency and the stored up seed bank had free reign to take over.
PB - I had similar issues with late weeds this year. Mainly grasses. Had to nuke them.

I'm not equipped to mess with gramoxone since I have to spray with an open tractor or ATV.
The grasses and sedges got shaded out by the other weeds and are probably on standby to flourish when the roundup defoliates the taller weeds.
Farming is hard.
lots of birds,
Gonna impose a 1 box of shells, 10
birds or 10 miss limit, whichever comes first.
