    Default Sorta New

Last year I met an an scducker up in Blythewood to get some decoys he hasn’t used in quite some years.
An NC Piedmont man who looked exactly like he sounded on the phone.
We chatted in the parking lot about what it was like hunting inland lakes for mallards and black ducks in the 1970s through the early 1990s.
He brought me 10 Herters 81 black ducks and 3 dozen Cabela’s cork mallards.
I wasn’t quite sure what I would do with the corks, but I was certain I wanted em.
I gave a pair to my parents for mantle pieces.
I’ve given a pair to my wife’s uncle for the same.
In the 70s and 80s he hunted over this very model on the upper lake, and inquired about em on his usual Friday afternoon, post up on my jonboat with a beer chats.

A couple weeks back I finally attempted to turn a few into something I would make a point to use this upcoming season.

Public water black ducks in SC are the pinnacle of waterfowling for me.
And while they are a needle in a haystack, I still see em and attempt to hunt em.

Old Timer, I will do my best to hunt any I see over this pair next season.

    Thanks Centurian.

Those ought to get the job done! Very cool!

they look like shit and the speckles on the head are silly. poor duck looks like it has some rash. avian flu?

should've left them as faded mallards and still not killed a black duck.

but if you're happy, I'm ok with it.

you know sportin woodies is a wizard with an airbrush. I am pretty sure Modela will have him in their next ad....i mean, if you want someone to fix your shitty paint job.

I found the remains of an old Herters 63 in a log jam that I’m going to clean up and get running.

    Nice job, Bog.

I'm re-reading (listening to) The Old Man and The Boy.

"That don't look much like a duck."

"It ain't gotta look like a duck to you. It only has to look like a duck to a duck. And from way up there it does the job just fine."

Haha if there was, it was chewed and worn off a year back. It was in a pirogue-in spot, which suits your style I think. A long ways upstream and several waterbody name changes up from you, but the same drainage I suppose. I did lose my homemade merganser, so keep an eye out for it if it’s not already holding dolphin in the Gulf Stream.

I can't read while I'm driving. I get car sick and the sound of blaring horns every time I get out of my lane or almost hit someone was getting annoying.

You buy the book and record yourself reading it and text it to me.

I'll let you not come hunt with me as payment.
